Challenge Owners

For the first time in the history of the Prototype Fund Switzerland, we will be selecting applicants to represent one of a total of five Challenge Areas, each reflecting a specific aspect of this year’s funding cycle’s overall theme, “Responsible & Sustainable AI.“

These Challenge Areas will be guided by one of our Challenge Owner organizations; read on to learn more about them!


A project of the World Wildlife Fund Switzerland, One Planet Lab Schweiz promotes systemic transformation by promoting the pioneers who are ready to develop sustainable solutions for the world of tomorrow.

This year, One Planet Lab is leading the Challenge Area: AI for Sufficiency: Monitoring Sufficiency and related Concepts in Media Coverage.


The Swiss Data Alliance is an independent think tank, we promote dialogue between public authorities and research institutions, business associations, companies and civil society organizations.

A joint project between EPFL, ETH Zurich and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS), Apertus is a LLM serving as a building block for developers and organisations for future applications such as chatbots, translation systems, or educational tools.

They are joining forces as Challenge Owners on the Challenge Area: Digital Sovereignty through AI-ready & Trusted Data for AI
